Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths. ~~Proverbs 3:5-6

a sad anniversary

Today is the anniversary of my grandfather's death. Pam - I told you wrong - it's been 12 years.

Bless my grandmother's heart - I talked to her while I was driving home from work tonight, and the only thing she would say was "I'm glad I was so busy today - I didn't have an opportunity to dwell on it." Thank goodness for her boyfriend, Allan (yes my Nanny has a BF!). He has been such a blessing in her life!

FLASHBACK:
The night before Popaw died, Danny & I had gone to Wal-Mart and bought a few doughnuts (enough for 1 each for Nanny & Popaw, and Danny & I). At the time, we were living in their upstairs bedroom. So we had put the doughnut box on the kitchen counter and not given them a second thought, until Popaw came out of the kitchen with a huge bite of doughnut in his mouth and asked "Who's doughnut is this?" After chiding him playfully - I said "Well, I guess it's yours now isn't it?" (He was always trying to "get" you by doing silly things - ie. hiding your car keys, etc) In the course of laughing and just having a good Saturday night in with the grandparents, he told me that he was going to wake me up at 7:00 the next morning so we could go for a walk. I asked nicely that he please not do that - because I loved sleeping in on the weekends. Well, low and behold - guess what time my grandfather passed away that next morning? Yep - about 7:00.......how wild/ironic/spooky is that?!

We're not entirely sure what he died from - it was either a massive heart attack or an aneurysm. But thank goodness we were there for my grandmother's sake. We had only been back in town for a week - obviously God had a hand in our move back from Huntsville!

I'm so envious! I just finished chatting on facebook with a friend we made while on our mission trip (she lives near Newnan, GA)....and they got 4 inches of beautiful snow! And here - zilch, nada, nothing! I showed Abby the pics on another friends' page - and she was all "What's up with that!?"

It's not like I want to miss work or anything - but heck - if it's going to be this cold and windy, at least give us something pretty to look at!

Bon Voyage!

Yeah, I know - we aren't going on a cruise, but I couldn't think of another fancy travel term. Oh well.

I want to give a quick "shout out" to Allen (you can visit his wife's blog here). Allen saved our mission team about $550 by acquiring his church's van for us! Man, you ROCK! (The funny thing is - I don't know if he will ever see this because I don't know if they read my blog!)

Anyhoo - we will be pulling out tomorrow morning at 4 a.m. to arrive at the Atlanta airport at approximately 6 a.m. for our flight that is scheduled to depart at 8:45. Once we land in Montego Bay - we've got another 2 1/2 hours on a bus to the camp where we are staying. Please, please, please - keep us in your prayers for safety (among other things as well).

I can't wait to get lots of awesome pictures to share (preferably lots with my VERY white daughter, with some VERY Jamaican kids!)!

OK folks, start praying for us.....we leave this Saturday (yes, how romantic that we get to travel ALL day on Valentine's Day!) for our Jamaica mission trip. How do you like Abby in her Rastafarian hat and braids? If you are at all interested in who we're working with, where we will be staying, etc then go here.

Oh, and I don't ever recommend books, but I am currently reading "Lifestories" by Mark Hall (lead singer of Casting Crowns), and yikes - I feel like he has me by the shoulders and is shaking some "Christian sense" into me. Some of the truths he just lays out there, and it is pretty eye-opening! If you can get hold of a copy of it - please do, and you can thank me later!

Do you have any book recommendations for me?
